This community visioning program, sponsored by the City of Thousand Oaks City Council has been established to build a roadmap with guiding principles for our city. Beginning with a presentation on March 26, 2014 by a leading futurist, Joel Kotkin, the program will continue through 2014 with a series of public meetings to address various aspects of our future community. These include environment, infrastructure, economy, municipal services, and civic & community.
On June 3rd the civic & community meeting, led by Council Member Bill-de la Peña, addressed the principles that would guide the future of non-profits in Thousand Oaks. Attended by some 50 citizens and staff members, began with a summary of the guiding principles established at the previous meeting related to senior services and a profile of current non-profit activity in the city of Thousand Oaks.
A lively discussion among representatives from several of the more than 400 public and private non-profits operating in the city followed. Several break out groups, which included two representatives from Manna, then drafted and presented guiding principal recommendations, primarily addressing the need for collaboration among non-profit organizations and increasing volunteerism. These guiding principle recommendations will be compiled and summarized at the next civic & community meeting to be held at the Thousand Oaks Library on July 1.
